First...... The Ride up.. Then the Mustangs

I wasn't even going to go up there yesterday. It had rained and the roads get nearly impassable when it rains a lot.
But I woke up early and checked the weather report. and even though it had rained up there the last couple of days, it was going to rain again on Friday, the other day I was going to go.
So.. I pulled myself out of bed, got dressed (no shower.. ick) Gathered my gear, grabbed some food for the day and off I went. This time I started my trip counter to see exactly how long it takes me to get up there.
At 6:52 am i was on the road. Not too bad for just rolling out of bed at 6:30ish.

Does it seem odd that there would be a sigh on a gravel road, STATING that there is loose gravel there..?? Doesn't that seem kinda obvious??

A lot of the road is like this, Rutted, Hard, Bumpy. Definitely NOT car country.

Half way up the world opens up a bit and you can start seeing the scenery much better

Almost to the top near Dry Head Overlook

Dry Head Overlook

I ended up taking a slightly different route than the road, I scouted out the grassy area to the left and took it instead of getting stuck.

The ruts in the road are pretty deep and they were filled with water and goooooo, If you slide into them your chances of getting stuck are REAL good. If I were to slip into the ruts my Jeep would have high centered and that would have be that..
It was hard to believe that on the way back most all of the water in these mud holes where mostly gone and the road was much more passable. What a difference a few hour made.

at the end of my trip, the trip counter was about 180 miles up and back. It takes me about 4 hours to get to the top of the Pryor Mountain horse range. So anyway you look at it,, it is a 12 hour day trip to go up there.
